Thoughts on sticker art

I studied oil painting at university. While I loved drawing, I felt that as times changed, oil paintings were no longer a type of art that everyone loved, and I was concerned about this.
My desire to make art feel more familiar to people and to create paintings that I felt were necessary for the current era led me to use stickers, which are easy to apply.
At first glance, my works appear to be simple landscape paintings, but when you get closer, you see that they are made up of individual stickers. By depicting modern urban landscapes using only stickers, the flat, superficial texture unique to stickers overlaps with the superficial aloofness inherent in modern landscapes, calling into question the essence of what beauty is.

From round stickers to cutting sheets, and thoughts on Japanese painting

Until now, Omura has presented a method of depicting night scenes using round stationery stickers, but since 2023, he has gradually begun to focus on the appeal of landscape paintings themselves rather than night scenes, and he realized that the source of this comes from the composition and expressiveness of old Japanese paintings. On the other hand, he has also become interested in cutting sheets, the original material of stationery round stickers. In the world of contemporary painting in Japan, there is no common belief that cutting sheets can be used as a material for painting, but Omura is convinced that their durability, wide range of colors and applicability are comparable to traditional paints. While studying Japanese painting, he incorporates the compositional beauty and interpretation of Japanese painting into his own style, and by composing these objects with stickers cut with cutting sheets, he pursues new contemporary expressions while inheriting the essential depth of painting.
